The Texas Tech Alumni Association Merket Alumni Center campaign has received a $500,000 gift toward its $4 million expansion campaign from Michael (“Mickey”) and Barbara Esslinger McKenzie. Mr. McKenzie, who is CEO and Chairman of the Board of Grocery Supply Company (GSC), graduated from Texas Tech in 1967 with a bachelor’s degree in management. Mrs. McKenzie graduated from the school in 1968 with a bachelor’s degree in history and currently serves as president of the alumni associations National Board of Directors. According to the university, the new ballroom in the Center will be named in the family’s honor.
